In this unit we are focus on receptive skills: reading and listening. Reading and listening are equally important skills because the learners needs these skills to understand learning a new language. There are few problems that can arise in the lesson because world length, sentence length, and unfamiliar vocabulary will cause confusion. Since it is a new material for the student, then even if they hear or see it written then they may not understand the material. To counteract these problems the teacher should carefully select a variety of text for different levels and interests and pre-teach tough, unfamiliar vocabulary. I do agree with choosing a fun topic that is at a level of the average skill of the class because then it will not be too difficult for students that are struggling but also not too easy for the advanced learners. This is difficult but a good balance should be made to provide an effective learning mechanism. Also to make a lesson fun is another important aspect to understanding a new language. I think I would use watching an interview of some popular celebrity or a funny video then evaluating certain points with my class, would be interesting and allow the students to better understand materials. If the material is fun then the students would be better engaged and therefore would more likely to understand the lesson given.
