Course books, visual aids, CD/DVD/cassettes, dictionaries are all examples of types of materials used in a classroom setting. Therefore, the fourteenth unit highlights the various types of materials in the classrooms through two categories: authentic and creative. Authentic examples are newspapers, photographs, menus, and objects already found in the world. Creative examples are word searches, role-play cards, crosswords, picture stories, flash cards, and new objects created based on the lessons. All of these various materials are used in the classroom regardless of the grade level. The most important material introduced in this unit was the course book, which has a teacher?s resource book, a student book and a work book. All of these help with the lesson plan and are great for new inexperienced teachers. I found this unit to be important because it is important to know how to teach as well as what to teach with. In my own educational institutions, I remember using pictures on flash cards to learn new vocabulary, reading newspaper articles on topics from around the world, and working in work book activities in question and answer format. There is no right or wrong materials to teach it depends on the students as well. Overall, this unit was informative to understand the various types of materials and when to use them in the lessons of the class.
