There are many forms of material we can use in the classroom. The most beneficial forms tend to be more authentic types such as newspaper clippings or TV./Radio recordings etc. These are very appealing to students due to the realistic and less-predictable nature of the material. Before deciding (if you are able to decide) which materials to use, we must be sure of our expectations and target outcomes within the lesson. Once we have this, we can create a lesson plan clearly outlining these materials and how and why they will be used. Although the students understanding will determine the general lesson progression, a lesson plan is good to have on hand and also as a historic document for both student and teacher. The internet can be a very good source to find new materials and also when recommending sites to students. However, we must be careful in ensuring sites are always appropriate and suitable for both student and teaching point. Finally this unit covers classroom management.
