Teach English in JiAyou Zhen - Baise Shi — Bose
This unit discussed the topics of modal auxiliary verbs, phrasal verbs and clauses, and the difference between active and passive voice. In covering modal verbs, it began by listing the modal verbs and their uses, such as, for example, describing probability or permission. With the help of the modal auxiliary verbs chart, I learned what each one is, their different functions and uses, and through the aid of example sentences, I was able to see clearly how even the same modal changes the meaning of a sentence depending on how it is used. The unit went on to describe the active voice and the passive voice. The chart provided in this segment, which listed all of the tenses and showed how each tense uses the passive voice, was very helpful because it is a lot of information to digest at once without a clear, visual aid to assist. The clauses section was a necessary refresher because it reminded me to look out for how students use commas, seeing as overuse or lack of use at all can completely change the meaning of a sentence. The last section was on the three types of phrasal verbs: intransitive, transitive separable, and transitive inseparable. This section was much more difficult to comprehend from definition alone. I am glad I had the example sentences, so that I could learn the three types of phrasal verbs and differentiate between them by seeing them in context.
