When teaching students with course books, there are two types of materials: authentic and created; both having its own reasons for its use. For authentic materials, they are real thus gathering interest from learners, learners are confident when understanding the real materials, and they can be catered to certain groups' interests. Created materials are hand-chosen and edited by teachers. Using course books comes in different inclusions including student's book, workbook, cassettes/CDs, teacher's book, videos, other published materials. Using coursebooks in the classroom have its advantages and disadvantages. In the pro-side, the materials have already been prepared in which preparation is not needed other than purchasing the materials. Also, it brings security, continuity, progression, and balanced mix of lessons. In its cons, it may not always cater to the students specific needs, it can be predictable, cause laziness and apathy to both students and teachers, and may be outdated. Considering both negatives and positives in using course books, the teacher can omit, replace, supplement, and adapt to the teacher's best interest for the class. Finally, when analyzing a course book for the class, the teacher should consider the price, availability, designs, skills, difficulty, syllabus, teacher's guide, topic, and ancillary materials for guidance and variety.
