The aim of this course is to give participants the opportunity to study ideas and methodologies, relating to the teaching of English to young learner, in an EFL setting. Objectives of the CTEYL course include: having an understanding of the general role of a young learner English teacher, creating a teaching syllabus, having realistic ideas for lessons and how to deliver them to a range of groups, knowledge of how to find/create materials, and an ability to make assessments throughout a teaching course. Young learners can be anyone between five to 13 years. Also, the processes of L1 and L2 are not exactly the same so some adaptations may need to be made. There are different employment opportunities for TEFL teachers, which include: teaching at a language school, teaching in a private school, or teaching privately. Salaries vary as well as the number of teaching hours, but 25 teaching hours per week is a reasonable maximum. I learned about the different acronyms that are commonly used in this industry. I'd known a few of the definitions but this was a good resource. It was also interesting to see the other terms I'd never heard of but I'm sure I'll come across in the future. I also learned about the different types of employment as well as the estimated hours and salary of each. It's something to consider when thinking about where I'd like to be employed in the future.
