Past tense forms can be tricky in terms of understanding for students new to English tenses and therefore should be taught carefully and concisely. The student s will probably have many issues with past tense that may include the omission of certain auxiliary verbs or the use of the incorrect auxiliary verb. They may have some confusion as to which tense should would be appropriate in a given situation. As with present tense, the past tense requires sound knowledge of verb conjugation on the part of the teacher as well as the students, and commitment to memory of the irregular verb conjugations for use in the perfect tenses.
