This unit on teaching special groups breaks down students into types of classes: Begginers, individuals, children, Business and Specific Purposes, multilingual vs. monolingual. Understanding the motivation levels of each class helps in determining the best approach in preparing lessons. To be aware of the advantages and disadvantages in teaching in each type of class also helps a teacher narrow down his/her preference on what class to teach. After reading this unit, I am leaning towards teaching English for Specific Purposes, as my motivation to sign up for TEFL was to help Vietnamese hotel staff to be more fluent in English.
