This unit was about teaching pronunciation. I think it is important to study this a bit while learning a language. I took a french phonetics class in college and it helped me immensely. It made it much easier to read different texts aloud in class which in turn helped my confidence in the language. If you aren't sure how things are supposed to be pronounced, you may be hesitant to try and speak. I definitely need to work on learning the phonetic symbols and such. In my class, we were supposed to learn them, but I didn't really bother too much. After going through this unit, I can see how important it could be. It would be nice to be able to look in the dictionary and know how a word is supposed to be pronounced even if I have never heard the word before. Even as English speakers I feel a lot of us struggle from time to time with some words. I think that if I were to bring a text to class to have my students read, I need to make sure that I know the correct pronunciation of it. I don't think it would be very good for a teacher to not be able to pronounce the things that they are trying to teach the students.
