This unit provided an insight into what a teacher should consider when managing a class. It addressed possible ways in which a teacher should arrange a classroom, and the pros and cons of the different ways to group students. Groupings considered included; the class as a whole, individual work, pair work and group work, the unit helped me to realise that each arrangement has benefits in certain situations, while none of the arrangements are consistently the right one. The unit also addressed how a teacher should address the classroom in order to create a relaxed and friendly environment, whilst maintaining discipline of the students. This involves the consideration of the way the teacher develops a rapport with students, the use of eye contact, clear simple English and where and how the teacher situated themselves in relation to the students, for example, standing or seated. This unit was helpful in that it brought to light another of the many facets of effective teaching, it also helped me to remember that teaching is about successful, appropriate and respectful interaction and relationships with other people.
