The functions of lesson planning are to aid in planning, be a working document, and keep record of what was done in class. The basic principles of lesson planning are keep it simple, don?t script, structure the lesson, write down anticipated times of activities, check for a balance of skills, and keep it flexible/open to adaptation. In order to make sure the lesson runs smoothly a teacher should check that they have the lesson plan, run through the lesson plan, check needed equipment to make sure it works, get all needed material out and ready to use, arrange the seating, clean the board, and be ready to chat with the students. What gets put into a lesson plan often depends on the teacher. Unit nine suggests having objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, and the date/time.
