Teach English in Gǔlou Jiedao [ChengguAn Zhen; incl. Anping Jiedao] - Anshun Shi
This unit focused primarily on the dynamics of the classroom and the role that both the teacher and the students played during a lesson. The types of classroom layouts as well as their positives and negatives were looked into as well as the teachers positioning during the various layouts and what the positioning of the teacher represented to the students. The teachers eye contact and overall demeanor as well as whether or not the teacher is standing or sitting can have profound rapport based and psychological results with the class on both a conscious and unconscious level, it was discussed when each behavior is best used and why. Teacher Talk Time vs. Student Talk Time was discussed and tips were given to maximize STT while keeping TTT to a minimum but still useful and viable level. The types of problem behaviors that could arise were also talked about in the Unit. How to deal with and prevent the underlying causes of these behaviors was covered, de-escalation was discussed as well as to never feel to proud or embarrassed to ask peers or colleagues for advice on how to best diffuse or deal with problem behavior.
