Teach English in DabAng XiAng [→ HuohuA Zhen] - Anshun Shi
This unit concentrates on pronunciation of the English language. We explore different aspects of pronunciation, for example articulation, stress on a particular work, or the intonation of a sentence. We examine some techniques for effectively teaching pronunciation, for example using tongue twisters, diagrams of what our mouths are doing when pronouncing a certain sound, and practice of stress, intonation using nonsense words. We go on to look at phonemes and the phonetic alphabet, which can be very useful for the students if they need to check pronunciation of a word in the dictionary. These characters represent a specific sound in the English language, regardless of how we spell a word. (Spelling of the same sound can often vary, leading to confusion) We then continue to look at articulation, that is how we make a particular sound. Where in the mouth that sound is made, if it is voiced or unvoiced etc. From this lesson I learnt more about the particularities of English pronunciation, I feel like I am more aware of how important pronunciation is and have been given some ideas for effectively teaching it to students.
