Games in the classroomI think everyone can remember being young and how boring many of the classes were as the teacher would lecture away on some topic and how dull and unexciting it was. As high energy children, the best times we enjoyed in learning were playing fun games or activities where we would just enjoy playing while we were learning. Educational games are quite important to learning as well as keeping a students interest. When a child is allowed to play, they are free to use their creativity and put forth new ways to use their mind. ?Games mean the world to children. Nothing is more fun than playing games for them because they feel happy and free while playing. (Rosemary, The Importance Of Using Games In The english Classroom)? Be they indoor or outdoor, when it comes to games we can not ignore the importance of games for students. When a student feels happy, is having fun and feeling free of the harsh boredom of lectures, the student will feel more happy to learn. ?If the game is a lot of fun then the student might equate learning about a subject as fun. It is good to get the students excited about learning. (Rose, Why Educational Games Are Important In The Classroom)? When students get excited about learning, they want to continue to learn. When people think of games, they think of them no more as rewards for a students hard work but games are a powerful tool that many teachers greatly ignore using properly to push their students to work harder by having fun. ?Take the facts, often conveyed in a lecture of from a text, and ask us to interact with them as processes and contexts. This potentially offers opportunities to develop deeper and more flexible knowledge of the system being described, rather than just memorizing it. (Dubbels, Games in the Classroom 7?Game Mechanics For Creating Learning)? The right games can add complexity to our lessons that allow the student to comprehend the lessons in a new and more unique way that may be easier for them to grasp than a lecture in front of a room. Not everyone can learn in the same way and as teachers, it is very important to always keep this in mind . This is especially true for learning a language where the things being spoken will not always click so well for the student at first as a game or activity would for them. Games add a wonderful variety to a classroom setting to make the students enjoy learning. When having games in the class room, the students enjoy being able to do something different or unique in their learning. ?That the motivation level of the students increases drastically upon their use is no accident. The addition of competition or a mystery prize often changes the most boring classroom activity into a ?game.? It is obvious to anyone teaching, that even mentioning to students that you might ?play a game? cause the students energy and motivation to increase drastically. (Bird, Games And Acvities In The Classroom)? This variety of adding competition with games to a classroom setting gives the students more drive to want to succeed and gives them that motivation to want to push themselves farther when they have a goal. I think all of us as felt a sort of sluggishness to want to learn when we don't have a clear goal for ourselves for that distance horizon of our destination so we get discouraged. Yet when we put goals in our life with games we get a destination to where we need to go and where to strive for. Games are an amazing way for teachers to not only give their students new ways to learn but allow the students to use their creativity, learn valuable tools and skills and also give them a variety of ways to learn that will support everyone overall in learning the subject matter of the lessons. The more games and variety you can give a student, the more they can have fun learning the material and just enjoy themselves without even thinking of it as learning.
