For many years jobs teaching English in Poland have been widely available. In fact, it is argued that Poland has more English teaching opportunities than anywhere else in the world. English teaching positions are located nationwide in state run universities, schools and colleges, as well as in private companies, institutes and language schools. By local standards salaries are high, with a comfortable standard of living, although, similar to many countries in the area, savings are small without taking on private lessons to add to your income.
You will find on the majority of EFL job websites that teaching positions in Poland are available all year round and you should have no trouble securing one. As with all other countries, use a pro-active approach by contacting schools directly when looking for a job. Business directories and language school websites will have contact information for you. Also, search the web for English language schools in Poland and for language schools in individual cities. You will require a TEFL/TESOL certificate and a university degree to gain employment.
Generally, contracts run for one year unless you are applying between the months of September to June (the academic year). You will find Polish citizens enthusiastic and friendly with a high regard for teachers. The teaching curriculum provided is generally split into terms and weeks within each term. Although a curriculum is provided, the majority of schools encourage teachers to adjust the lesson contents to suit individual needs. Please note that schools require you to provide results while following the curriculum, however, the way you achieve these results is down to the teacher.
